About my Domain

What is a domain name, and why I need one?

A domain name is an adress that belongs to your website. Domain names are one of the main reasons behind the massive success of the Web and Internet.

A domain name is a word with no spaces followed by what is called a superior level domain (or TLD). The TLD is an standard code (.com, .org, .info, .net, and many others) who tries to point the topic the website is about or its geographical origin (.com was originally thought for commercial sites, and .es is the designated TLD for Spain).

Registry of domain names are world-wide regulated by an organism called ICANN. From there, a whole structure of domain dealers sell domains to the end user.

A domain name is always registered and renewed on an anual basis.

I have already registered a domain with another provider, can I use it on Drawfolio?

Yes, domain names can be transfered between providers, and we will not charge you more than we do in our annual fee. In order to transfer your domain registry to Drawfolio, your current provider has to give you a security code (or auth-code), which we need to begin the domain registry transfer process. This process should at least be started 30 days before your current domain registry expiration, don't wait until the last day!

My domain registry with another provider is about to expire, can I transfer it?

It's quite a bad idea to wait until the last day to transfer a domain name between providers. The world-wide organism that regulates domain names (ICANN) says that domain names should be transferred at least 7 days before the domain expiry date. We can try to initiate the transfer process with less time, but on any problem or incident the domain will be considered expired.

An expired domain CANNOT be transferred. ICANN regulation tells that when a domain is expired, it enters a so called "Redemption Period" (usually between 60 and 90 days) where only the original provider can re-activate that domain. ICANN also will charge 90 USD to that provider for re-activating that domain, and the provider will charge you even more than that.

Why does my browser say my Drawfolio website "is not secure"?

The PRO Plan of Drawfolio does not include HTTPS (secure web) for domains. This just means that the communication between a visitor's browser and your website is not encrypted.

If you already upgraded to PRO Plan and want to have secure web and SSL in your domain, you can subscribe to the SSL Extra and have an automatic SSL certificate for your domain, with no extra technical setup. SSL Extra costs 20€ + VAT per year, and you can subscribe it in the "Subscribe to Extras" section of your account.
